Bridal sizes generally run one to two sizes smaller than your normal clothing, so don’t panic if you have to order a larger size than normal. Whatever you do, don’t order a dress that’s too small with the hope that it will “motivate” you to lose weight before the wedding. It’s best to have your wedding gown altered by the retailer where you bought it if at all possible. Bring the shoes you’ll be wearing on your wedding day to the alteration shop to confirm your dress is the right length and fit. If your gown has a train, have a bustle added to it so you may dance more readily at the reception.
Before the reception, request and appoint one of your friends or family members to bustle your dress. This person should have attended your most recent fitting so that he or she knows exactly what to do. You should get your dress changed as soon as possible before your wedding day, but don’t wait until the last minute in case there are any last-minute modifications. To ensure that all of your adjustments are performed, most tailors will request a 4 to 6-week turnaround time.
Accessories
Finally, you may want to embellish your gown on the big day, but be careful what you choose, especially if your gown is already ornately adorned. Your accessories should enhance rather than detract from your gown. When accessorizing, remember to consider the venue, season, and formality of your wedding.
