If you’ve got a wedding coming up in the autumn months, then we’re here to help you get your look just right! From choosing the right dress code to accessories and final touches, we know you’ll be the best dressed. This is the perfect opportunity to get dressed up and enjoy yourself, whether you scour the local charity shops for the perfect dress or want to buy that dress you’ve had your eye on for a while!
Read The Invitation Well
The first thing you should do is make sure that you read the invitation well. This gives so many hints to help you narrow down your choices and make picking a dress or outfit easier. Start by looking if they’ve outlined a dress code at all, as of course that’s your best hint. This could be anything from black tie at a manor house or fancy hotel through to casual for something like a beach wedding, so use this as your first port of call. If the couple requests a specific dress code, make sure you stick to it, as it’s their special day and there will be a reason they’ve requested it.
If there’s not a clear dress code, then look up the venue. You can look at the kind of location it is and that can also help, as well as looking at their wedding section for what other guests have worn. For example, if it’s a barn wedding, you might want to go for something quite light and flowy, or if it’s in a castle or mediaeval style building, you might want something more formal.
Lastly, you can usually take hints from the design of the invitation too. If there is a main colour that is used on the invites, then it is likely that this will be the main decor of the wedding and also potentially what the bridesmaids will wear, so it’s probably best to just avoid this.
Choose Your Shoes Wisely
When you’re looking at the venue, something else to consider is your choice of shoes. Weather can be a bit hit and miss in the autumn months, and so if at least part of the wedding will be outside, avoid stilettos that could get stuck in mud. Whereas, if it’s a city or hotel wedding, you can wear whatever you feel comfortable in! Perhaps take a change of shoes with you to leave under your table if you are going for higher shoes, so you can dance the night away without concerns about your feet hurting!
Consider A Lightweight Jacket
Like we mentioned, the weather can be unpredictable in autumn, so you should consider taking a lightweight jacket. If your wedding guest dress or outfit has long sleeves, you may not need this, however for short sleeve or sleeveless dresses, this would be advised. We’re not talking about a puffer jacket or anything casual here, but go with something like a slim fit overcoat or trench coat, perhaps a blazer or maybe a Chanel inspired cropped tweed jacket.
Don’t Forget Your Accessories
Accessories are a must to take your wedding guest look to another level. Choose your dress first and then the accessories can come after so you can keep everything matching. If you’ve got quite a simple dress, you could use accessories to add glam to the look, like a headband, a designer bag, potentially a hat for dressy weddings or statement earrings, necklaces and bracelets. For those of you who have chosen a statement dress, of course you can go bold with statement pieces, or keep things simple with some stunning solid gold earrings and a bracelet.
Consider your hair and makeup look with this as well, as if you’ve got a lot of detail at the top of your dress, perhaps go for an up-do. Or, if it’s more simplistic, you could have your hair down as it won’t distract anything from the dress. Try your dress on with a few different looks to see what works well.
Go For A Warm Colour Palette
Lastly, autumn is the perfect time to go for a nice warm autumn colour palette. Camel, mustard, amber, rusty orange, olive green, teal blues and dark browns all look stunning in the autumn months. These colours all lend themselves to gold accessories really well too, to add to the autumnal look.
Something great recently is more people are finding out which colours compliment their skin tone and features, and you can also use AI now for recommendations on the shades that are right for you. You can also book appointments with specialists who will do thorough reviews and provide a full personalised breakdown, however of course this is a bit more expensive!
